20 MCQsUpdated 27 October 2026

One-word substitution asks for the single word that replaces a phrase, such as a person who walks in their sleep or a speech made without preparation. This set covers the forms that regularly appear in SSC and banking papers.

Many of these words share Greek or Latin roots, such as -cide (killing), -phobia (fear) and omni- (all). Learning the roots lets you work out unfamiliar words in the exam hall.
